Diary of a Playboy :: Part 1

“But I Love Angela. Isn’t it enough?”, spat out Amar as he crossed his legs and sat up on his bed.

“No dude no. This is not how it works.”, Chris replied coolly, waving his fingers in a dismissive manners. “Your love comes later, once the girl has fallen in love with you.”

“And how am I going to do that, I even haven’t been able to talk to her, since she has arrived in the college.”, Amar sighed and rested on the wall against which his bed was propped. “At this rate, she would be with that freak Salman soon, you know I saw them sitting together at a table yesterday. I am sure they were holding hands below it.”, his shoulders dropped as he thought about the deflating image of Angela and Salman together.

The Rail Trip chronicles

Chris let his hand limp from the berth, sighing softly “Kill me now”. Agasthya below him, murmured “I would, if I wasn’t bored to death myself”, swatting away the rhythmically swerving hand above him.

Asif, seated on the opposite birth to Agasthya opened a box from his backpack. and offered them savories, “Anyone…?”.

“For the nth time Asif, I am bored not hungry.”, grumped Agasthya even as Chris helped himself to a piece. Continue reading

Confession of a Cheater- Part 3

This one is for all you cheaters out there, always looking for better ways to pass an examination than just studying. I would call myself a pro now, but I was not always like this. Every superhero has an origin, every cheater has a beginning. This is mine and then some. Enjoy…

The Third Reich

Time: Class 10 The test: Monthly Unit Test

The Problem: History

I don’t remember when I first did it (maybe it was because I did it so many times afterwards), but by this time, I had given in to the dark side. I mean come on: History, Geography, Physics, Maths, English, Hindi, Computers, Chemistry and that abhorrent Biology (I once cheated my ass off and still failed that subject). You can’t pass those subjects until you had skills, a very particular set of skills, a set of skills that allowed you to copy from your friend’s answer sheet.

Angad had moved to another section (he had opted for commerce over science, lucky him), but I had found others; willing and able. Me and Swapnil (name changed) sat on those individual benches which were made for 1 but 2 of them slammed together to make it work for 3. 2 more of our kind (believe me we were the majority now) sat in front of us. Apparently tests were the times when students seated spaciously were justified. Continue reading

Thrown Answers

Time: Class 8 The test: Half Yearly Exams

The Problem: Computers

If cheating was a crime (I think it is somewhere in there) Angad and I would be partners. I would be an accomplice however never the perpetrator. I think I rationalized the mean streak in me by telling myself that I was only helping Angad, and asking nothing in return. We were cool that way, I kept my self respect and Angad kept his marks, everybody was happy.

It was the last paper of the half-yearly. Another one of Angad’s multiple weak spot. I knew a lot depended on me. The computer paper was almost always full of long and winding programs and flowcharts. Not only were these difficult to dictate, if you copied even a little bit of it wrong, the whole effort would amount to nothing (this is of course considering the original is correct). I was not exactly sure how Angad would tackle that, but I left it to him. Continue reading

First Steps

Time: Class 7 The test: Monthly Unit Test

The Problem: Physics Q.1-3

Angad Chaturvedi(name changed), sat behind me during most exams (our roll no. being sequential). Angad hated a lot of subjects, but he hated Physics with a bit more passion than others. I on the other hand was what you would call a child prodigy (ok I was marginally better than Angad). Anyways, so here we were, on test day, one behind the other. The papers were handed out, the bell rang and we were away. Continue reading

The Batman- A New Origin

“Ok Rick, I am at the front gate. What’s your position?”

“We have visual, 5 men, 3 visibly armed. Team Beta is standby at the warehouse gate.”

“Ok, move in 3 minutes after my go. They will try to go back out the warehouse door, that’s when Beta team needs  to move in cut them off.”

“Be careful. God-Speed” Continue reading

Do we know you: Part 2 : The Mystery Doctor

Arshad, turned the long winding corner and brought his car onto the new Ring Road. At 3 in the night, it was as quiet as a national highway could be. There were trucks, and other heavy vehicles around, but almost no private vehicles. Another hour and he could be home, he thought. This had been a slow week, and he wished it to end that way.

Ever since he had started his night patrols as the mystery doctor, his rest times had decreased drastically, in-fact he had taken up some yoga postures that allowed him to compress hours of sleep into minutes, but yoga can only help you so much. With his workload increasing at the hospital, he had been working 30 hours shifts for almost 2 months now. He had thought about cancelling his patrols once or twice, but Arshad realized that he did this patrol more as a habit than a responsibility. That’s why this break was so anticipated. He had got a complete week off from the hospital, a reward for his un-interrupted service for the last 5 months. He was still going to carry out his normal patrol, but at least he could go home and sleep instead of getting ready for his morning shift. Continue reading

Agni: Dossier of A Shadow: Part 2

“Had your little heart to heart?”

Agni had just stepped out of that sorry excuse of a police station, when I called out to him. He turned around to look at me, and immediately knew something was off. The rain was well and truly coming down hard, so hard that the plume of the breaking droplets was almost waist high. That, along with the night, made visibility next to zero, but he didn’t need to see me to know who I was, he just had to feel me. Continue reading

We at Write Tribe are doing just that but with stories on our blog. One person tells a short story on his/her blog, the next Blogger will continue the story, till it finishes on Blogger no. 9. I am blogger no.6.
