[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

Agasthya kept moving in and out of sleep for a while. For the first few times, every time he opened his eyes, they hurt him at the back of his head. Once he woke up to find himself being picked up by a few people before passing out again due to the pain. The next time he woke up, he noticed he wasn’t looking at the sky anymore, and rather a black roof of a car, the jolts had woken him up, but this time his head hurt a little less. He still felt foggy though, and promptly went back to sleep. He woke up a few more times, owing to the jolt, but he couldn’t keep himself awake for more than a few seconds.

Chapter 20(T): The Crash

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

[P.S. This is independent of the choice provided in Chapter Q, haven’t checked it out yet. Do it now.]

“Agasthya”, the panic in Gokul’s voice was evident now. “Its not stopping, the brakes have failed.”

Agasthya forced the haziness off him. The next sharp turn helped. He could see Gokul Das hammering down on the brake pedal to no effect. He could also see Gokul wildly hashing the steering wheel in various directions, as he tried to keep a quickly accelerating JEEP on the meandering roads of the BHU. Fortunately, the roads were more or less empty. But what bothered Agasthya most was what he could see straight ahead. The quiet road led into an encampment inside the campus, an encampment which was surrounded by a thick concrete wall. There was a small gate right where the road met the wall, but it was too small to aim for with a speeding JEEP. Gokul had done a good job of keep the car on the road till now, but there was no way they would avoid a collision with the wall, provided they reached that far.

Chapter 19(S): Saving Gokul Das

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

[P.S. This is independent of the choice provided in Chapter Q, haven’t checked it out yet. Do it now.]

Gokul Das’s home was an unremarkable old 2 story house somewhere in the ancient busy street of Varanasi. The front facing wall of the house was about 8 feet high, covered in cracking yellow pain, molasses and some vines. The solitary barely blue painted 2 panel door right in center of the wall opened into a small patio. The patio itself was quite large, almost 12×12 feet, on one side (to the right of the door) was most of the house, on the opposite side was the bathroom and the cleaning area. The side opposite the door was closed off with another 8 foot high wall which it shared with another house. In fact Gokul Das’s home was surrounded by houses on all 3 sides except for the small street that led to it. Continue reading

“Mr. Bhooshan, I am Agasthya, special agent National Intelligence Agency. This is the first time I am calling you.”

“Don’t mess me with me. I have a blood pressure problem. I might have a heart attack soon. I have been talking and listening to every word you have told me for the past half an hour.”, Bhooshan shouted into the cellphone. He was right, his heart was almost beating out of his chest.

Chapter 13(M): Mind of a Murderer

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

Agasthya was feeling the heat and it wasn’t just the Bangalore weather. The first news that his team had got as soon as they had landed at the KIAB International Airport was that Akash Sharma had been found dead in his car. Kabir was baffled, ever since that fateful night the killer has been one step ahead of them at every single turn. Chandra was sure this was the job of a terrorists organization, as only they had the resources to pull of such meticulous kills. Agasthya was not so sure.

The police color painted Tata Sumo bumped and rolled on the dusty streets. Agasthya, Kabir and Chandra had left as soon as they heard report of a critical Salil Batra. From what they could understand from the broken conversation over the radio, was that Batra had fallen sick about an hour after their last radio contact. They had to turn back to the last village they had crossed and had admitted Batra into the local hospital. No foul play was evident, but Agasthya would be the judge of that. The car bumped up and down tremendously but Agashya and the others didn’t have time for comfort.

Chapter 10(J): Jaipur

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

Agasthya wiped his forehead for the nth time. It was like sitting in a car out in the sunlight with its window shut. The only difference was he wasn’t in a car, but a outer border Police Chowki of Jaipur. It had turned out that Dr. Salil Batra was nearer to Jaipur, than he was to Ahmedabad. Agasthya had taken a call and wanted Salil Batra to come to Jaipur instead of Ahmedabad. Not only did it reduce the time where Salil Batra was un-protected, it also threw a wrench in the plans of the killer, if he had plans for Ahmedabad.

“One by one they will fall
Kings and soldiers standing tall.
People who once held the wall.
No one will come to their beck and call.
One by one they will fall.”

Agasthya read it, and then re-read it. It was clearly a message, and an omen of things to come. It was also a challenge. But was it a deception? These were the questions that had been floating around in Agasthya’s head ever since Kabir told him of this note. It was still in his mind when he was summoned to the N.I.A headquarters in Delhi, and asked for a debriefing.

“So you are telling me. You were coming back from a party. Your car had broken down while on the way back, and the knife that you had, is something that you took from the party.”, Agasthya summarized the statement that Sanjeev had given him during the last half an hour or so.
