Diary of a Playboy :: Part 1

“But I Love Angela. Isn’t it enough?”, spat out Amar as he crossed his legs and sat up on his bed.

“No dude no. This is not how it works.”, Chris replied coolly, waving his fingers in a dismissive manners. “Your love comes later, once the girl has fallen in love with you.”

“And how am I going to do that, I even haven’t been able to talk to her, since she has arrived in the college.”, Amar sighed and rested on the wall against which his bed was propped. “At this rate, she would be with that freak Salman soon, you know I saw them sitting together at a table yesterday. I am sure they were holding hands below it.”, his shoulders dropped as he thought about the deflating image of Angela and Salman together.

Chapter 18(R): Hit And Run

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

[P.S. This is independent of the choice provided in Chapter Q, haven’t checked it out yet. Do it now.]

Kabir was 31. In those 31 years, he had never traveled further than Muzaffarnagar, his native town. In the past 1 week however, he had almost covered the width and breadth of the country. He hadn’t been sightseeing though. In fact most of his time had been spent in actual traveling than in the actual places. Jaipur, Bangalore and now Guwahati, they had always been behind the killer. This time however, Kabir felt that they had an actual edge.

Chandra took in his surroundings, and then he observed his quarry for today. The informer was an old man, he would place him around 60-65, if he had to. Pot bellied, almost bald, and a white curvy mustache, he wore a over sized full sleeve cotton shirt which had patches of sweat visible around his wait and his arm pits. He matched that khaki shirt with a formal cream colored pant which had seen better days. He wore leather sandals along with that garb, and held a small man purse, dangling along his right hand completing the look of a man who had spent most of his life in the generation gone by.

Chandra typed feverishly into his laptop. His last mail to his superiors at RAW had been drafted, adequately encrypted and was now fit for sending. The travel that he had done for the past few days had tired him immensely, he wasn’t made for such strain, he was made to sit in front of a computer and analyze data. That’s what he was good at. Perhaps that’s the reason he was sent on this investigation in the first place. He massaged the bridge of his nose, lifting his spectacles up a bit.

“Mr. Bhooshan, I am Agasthya, special agent National Intelligence Agency. This is the first time I am calling you.”

“Don’t mess me with me. I have a blood pressure problem. I might have a heart attack soon. I have been talking and listening to every word you have told me for the past half an hour.”, Bhooshan shouted into the cellphone. He was right, his heart was almost beating out of his chest.

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

“Hello Mr. Bhooshan. I want you to listen to me very carefully.”

Bhooshan definitely did not expect to hear those words when he picked up the phone. He was wrapping up from his latest lecture, his laptop and bag all closed, his blazer on his arm and his spectacles in his breast pocket. All the students had left and he was alone in the conclave lecture hall.

“Who is this?”, Bhooshan spoke strictly. It was not the first time a student was playing a prank on him.

“Mr. Bhooshan Rastogi, Believe me when I say that, I am not one of your students. Your life is in grave danger. As stupid as it may sound my instructions may be the only thing which could save you.”, the voice was stern and confident this time. This was definitely no student.

Chapter 13(M): Mind of a Murderer

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

Agasthya was feeling the heat and it wasn’t just the Bangalore weather. The first news that his team had got as soon as they had landed at the KIAB International Airport was that Akash Sharma had been found dead in his car. Kabir was baffled, ever since that fateful night the killer has been one step ahead of them at every single turn. Chandra was sure this was the job of a terrorists organization, as only they had the resources to pull of such meticulous kills. Agasthya was not so sure.

Akash adjusted his tie until it was dead center and looked in perfect shape. He smiled at himself in the mirror. 30 years, and he still looked the part. He always believed that keeping fit should be as important as keeping rich. He sure was fit, and soon he was going to be rich too, or to be more accurate richer.

Chapter 11(K): The kill, the clue

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

The police color painted Tata Sumo bumped and rolled on the dusty streets. Agasthya, Kabir and Chandra had left as soon as they heard report of a critical Salil Batra. From what they could understand from the broken conversation over the radio, was that Batra had fallen sick about an hour after their last radio contact. They had to turn back to the last village they had crossed and had admitted Batra into the local hospital. No foul play was evident, but Agasthya would be the judge of that. The car bumped up and down tremendously but Agashya and the others didn’t have time for comfort.

Chapter 10(J): Jaipur

[if this is the first time you have landed here, I strongly recommend, you check this out first]

Agasthya wiped his forehead for the nth time. It was like sitting in a car out in the sunlight with its window shut. The only difference was he wasn’t in a car, but a outer border Police Chowki of Jaipur. It had turned out that Dr. Salil Batra was nearer to Jaipur, than he was to Ahmedabad. Agasthya had taken a call and wanted Salil Batra to come to Jaipur instead of Ahmedabad. Not only did it reduce the time where Salil Batra was un-protected, it also threw a wrench in the plans of the killer, if he had plans for Ahmedabad.
